Air Tight launched the original ATM-2 in 1988. This KT-88 based push-pull power amplifier received the honour of many awards and has been our longest running power amplifier model for over 30 years. Today, we are revamping this celebrated model to redefine the KT-88 push-pull amplifier with AirTight's 30 years of technical expertise.

The new ATM-2Plus is a completely new design that maintains AirTight's legendary style and outlook. All circuits, including the first and second amplification and internal constructions were renewed. Unlike a time when we launched the original ATM-2, the old KT-88 tubes are almost unobtainable, and the quality of modern tubes is different. Our goal was to reduce tube plate voltage and maintain output power for longer tube life as well as stable amplifier operation.

For the optimum operating point of the KT-88/6550 tubes, we incorporated 6CG7/6FQ7 tubes, which are more powerful than the original 12AU7 tubes for wider amplitude and lower distortion. AirTight also redesigned the negative feedback to optimise damping factors to match today's speakers. The output transformer is an important component for the power amplifier. ATM-2Plus is mounting Tamura's new large 100W class output transformers without moderation to allow for surplus at minimums. For the critical power transformer, we decided to manufacture a custom hand-wound/paper-wrapped transformer by a Japanese craftsman for a clearer and larger soundstage.

The exterior design of the ATM-2Plus adheres to that of its predecessor, but the new chassis design hides the fasteners by using bolts and ensuring a firm grounding of the frame. Another new feature would be quick-break fuses to protect the amplifier from output tube faults.

In keeping with traditions, no printed circuit boards are used in ATM-2Plus, and all ATM-2Plus assembly and wiring is done by our craftsmen at AirTightfactory in Takatsuki, Osaka.
