Designed for the multi-channel music recording enthusiast, the EC 4.9 is a unique six-channel fully balanced preamplifier (in some spectrums unique in that virtually all multi-channel capable preamps available on the market are geared towards Home Theatre applications) whose circuitry has been designed and executed with the same rigour as Electrocompaniet's own stereo counterparts. This means that audiophile-grade components are used and that each channel of signal processing is completely independent of the others and has its own power supply system. When combined with Electrocompaniet's own AW 3x120-M power amplifier, the EC 4.9 is capable of switching between multi-channel and bridged stereo operation, giving the user the ability to enjoy exactly the same sound quality in stereo as in multi-channel. A sophisticated volume control with an adjustment range from -111 dB to +6 dB allows the output level to be optimised for configuration, complemented by a vertical bar display on the front panel that allows the output level for each channel to be checked.
