LYNGDORF CD-2. CD player

The CD-2 is designed for audio only and, for this reason, using a pure audio unit is simpler and better. All multi-format units are based on video and clock designs, and the audio output is then re-sampled (uncontrolled) to audio output clocks. Many choose to optimise the clock in the unit itself, but no matter what you do, the ground potentials are difficult to control and the motor control board produces noise.

Electrical design.

The switched-mode power supply designed by Lyngdorf Audio is extremely well regulated and is filtered and decoupled to provide a low-noise, low-impedance supply to the digital and analogue circuits. With separate supplies from four independent secondary windings in the transformer, the analogue and digital supplies are kept separate to minimise digital noise in the analogue circuit. Grounding is optimal and the entire chassis is electrically connected. The rear panel is electrically conductive.

Lyngdorf Audio spends a lot of time and effort to design products that do not emit noise. Making a noise and radiation free design has the advantage that it will also make the CD-2 itself immune to noise from the outside and from products that have not had the same attention to detail in the design phase.

D/A converter.

The D/A converter section is used to drive a high quality, single-ended, balanced output stage. The D/A converter is based on the Wolfson WM8740 chip. This, in combination with our balanced design and very fine audiophile operational amplifiers, results in outstanding sonic qualities.
