Super Denton: New Addition to Wharfedale Heritage Range
Inspired by the legendary Denton 3, a bookshelf loudspeaker launched by Wharfedale in 1971, the Super Denton is the latest addition to the British firm's Heritage range. With a design that pays homage to its predecessor, the Super Denton features a modern acoustic configuration that combines advanced technology with classic styling.
The Super Denton uses a bass-reflex loading with dual rear ports, a common Wharfedale solution that improves control of the air mass within the tubes, providing a more accurate and deeper bass response.
The Super Denton's drivers are more advanced than those of any previous Denton model:
- 165 mm Kevlar Woofer: This cone of interwoven Kevlar fibres is tuned to go down to 40 Hz, an impressive register for such a compact loudspeaker.
- 50 mm Soft Dome Midrange Speaker: Inspired by the award-winning EVO4 range, this speaker offers a smooth transition between bass and midrange/treble, as well as high dispersion.
- 25 mm Soft Dome Tweeter: The latest generation tweeter incorporates a ceramic magnetic motor and rear chamber, elements from the Dovedale model, ensuring accurate upper octave restitution.
The loudspeakers are tuned using computer-optimised filter circuitry. High-quality components common in the high-end, such as air-core coils and polypropylene capacitors, are used. The final filter configuration was determined after 1,000 hours of listening, following Gilbert Briggs' philosophy.
Thanks to these innovations, the Super Denton delivers exceptional sound quality. Its Kevlar woofer provides deep, controlled bass, while the mid-range speaker and tweeter ensure faithful and detailed reproduction of the mid and high frequencies.
