Founded in 1918 by Axel Petersen and Arnold Pulsen, the Danish brand Ortofon, current world number one in magnetic pickup capsules and accessories for turntables, began its trajectory as a company creating the first machines to sound films. Back then, the company was known as Electrical Fonofilms Company A / S. Years later, specifically in 1923, the company presented the first synchronized film at the Palace Theater in Copenhagen.
The inventors of the system then registered several patents that marked the principles of sound recording on optical media. In fact, until the beginning of the Second World War the growth of the company was due solely to the development of talkies. It was during this conflict when production was reorganized towards the manufacture of equipment for mixing and producing soundtracks. Thus, the first moving coil (MC) capsule was conceived in 1945, being - logically - a monophonic design. The development, a ten years later, of the stereophony implied the realization of numerous modifications in the mentioned design, but the bases of the new activity were already established.
